ABOUT CBD

WHERE DOES THE CBD COME FROM?

We chose to partner up with East Fork Cultivars because they maintain a resolute commitment to environmental responsibility, science-based education, and social justice. They strive to develop and preserve sustainable, sun-grown farming methods in order to produce high-quality, genetically diverse, CBD-rich cultivars.

Since November of 2018, the craft hemp arm of East Fork Cultivars has been certified USDA Organic. They were one of the first hemp farms in the U.S. to receive certification. In order to achieve this certification, they had to demonstrate that they were protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and using only approved substances. Multiple inspections were conducted, historical property research was done, and their vendors were scrutinized; after the rigorous process, they were certified.

East Fork Cultivars are third party certified by Sun & Earth, USDA , Oregon Liquor Control Commission , and Oregon Department of Agriculture

What carrier oil does VOS use for its CBD Oil Infusions?

We use Organic Hemp Seed oil instead of the MCT refined coconut oil many companies prefer.

Why?

Hemp seeds are a great source of essential fatty acids, such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an omega-3 fatty acid.. Since the body cannot produce essential fatty acids, it must  absorb them from the diet. The ratio of omega-3s to omega-6s is also important.. Hemp seeds have about a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which is  considered in the optimal range. Also, hemp oil is low in saturated fats and contains no trans fat.

Our CBD Processor

Our processor is one of the first fully USDA certified hemp processing facilities on the west coast. Their Oregon facility is dedicated organic and all of their products are certified USDA Organic through OneCert, a premier international organic certifier.

What does USDA organic mean?

CBD products are under-regulated so we have decided to partner with a CBD processor who has USDA Organic Certification.

USDA Organic certification for a hemp handling facility means far more than you may think.

  • Standard Operating Procedures
    • We have developed extensive and redundant standard operating procedures for all aspects of our production facility. This is includes standard operating procedures for sanitation, hemp extraction, and consumer-level goods production. Significant attention has been placed on worker safety and preventing product contamination.

  • Ingredient Tracing
    • All ingredients used in our products are sourced from verified USDA Organic sources. We retain certificates of analysis for each and every ingredient. Lot identification numbers are recorded each time ingredients enter our facility.

  • Batch Tracking
    • An ingredient tracking sheet is created for each and every batch of products produced in our facility. This includes the lot number for each ingredient as well as date created, quantity produced, testing dates, and storage method. Our batch records allow us to trace in both directions, from product to ingredient as well as ingredient through products. If an issue was ever to arise with a ingredient, this system allows us to quickly track effected batches and take corrective action.

  • Inspections
    • Upon renewal of our organic certification each year our facility is subject to a thorough inspection. This includes a review of all our records and paperwork and batch tracking exercises. In addition, our facility is subject to random inspections from our organic certifier.
